PALO ALTO, Calif. — New Mexico women’s golf is tied for 13th after the opening round of the Stanford Women’s Intercollegiate held at the par 71, 6,089 yard Stanford Golf Course. Sophomore Jodi Ewart highlighted the Lobos performance Friday after carding a 2-under par 69 and is tied for third individually. Ewart enters the second round only three shots behind Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst for the lead. The tournament continues Saturday and can be followed online at www.Golfstat.com.

Ewart recorded six birdies in the round and was 4-under on the front nine. She is tied with Jennie Lee from Duke in third place.
Senior Giselle Claux shot a 5-over par 76 and is tied for 39th. Senior Alexandra Phelps was 10-over on the day and is tied for 73rd. Juniors Mikaela Backstedt and Py Bengtsson completed for UNM and are tied for 80th and 89th respectively. Backstedt fired a 12-over par 83, while Bengtsson was 14-over.

Duke was 2-under for the round and leads the overall event by nine strokes over UCLA. Arizona State is third at 9-over par.
