Q & A With George CarterQ & A With George Carter

Sept 20, 2007

Senior George Carter is a returning starter at right outside linebacker who has been a steady contributor since breaking into the regular defensive rotation for the first time last fall. Carter made his first start in week 2 of 2006 at New Mexico State in place of an injured Cody Kase and stayed in the starting lineup the rest of the regular season. He has played in 31 career games, including 14 appearances exclusively on special teams in 2004 and ’05

Carter is three-time Academic All-MWC honoree who graduated last May with a degree in Marketing Management. He was named the 2007 Lobo Club Male Student-Athlete of the Year and is very active in the community, volunteering his time as a mentor for at-risk teens, providing food and clothing to the homeless through area churches. He also worked with the UNM African-American studies program and professor David Hilliard to plant and maintain gardens in inner city neighborhoods.

The former Albuquerque High School standout is off to a good start with 15 tackles (7 solo), including 1.5 for loss and an assisted sack. He also has 3 QB hurries and a forced fumble in his 4 starts.

D.J. Renteria: Did you have a role model growing up?
George Carter: My mother was my role model. She always worked hard and raised three children by herself, and did a great job. She symbolizes strength for me.

DR: What is the best thing about being a senior this year?
GC: Just the fact that I made it this far in my career here. All the hard work is paying off. It’s a really good feeling.

DR: What would be the biggest victory of the year for you?
GC: BYU would have to be the biggest victory for myself because they have been good for the last couple years. It is also a big rivalry game for us.

DR: Are you a mama’s boy or a lady’s man?
GC: I am a combination of the two actually. To play it safe I am a mama’s boy.

DR: What is your favorite food?GC: My mother’s Mexican food is the best thing in the world.

DR: If you were head coach for a day what would you change?
GC: I would change the practice time to 3-5 p.m.
