Q & A With Anthony Kilby

Q & A With Anthony KilbyQ & A With Anthony Kilby

Sept 13, 2007

Senior Antony Kilby was a two-year starter at offensive tackle before sliding over to guard this year. A road-grading run blocker, Kilby is poised to establish himself as a dominant player up front and is expected to be an all-MWC candidate this fall. Coaches say he could also have a future at the next level with a breakthrough senior season.

Kilby is an Albuquerque native who originally signed with the Lobos in February of 2003 out of Manzano High School where he was a high school teammate of current Lobo RB Rodney Ferguson. He began his collegiate career, however, at Garden City (Kan.) Community College and earned junior college All-America honors in 2004 as a redshirt freshman. Former Garden City CC teammate OJ Swift is a starting safety for the Lobos.

Kilby has been a physical force this fall, helping to lead a strong early season performance by the Lobo offensive line. He has 24.5 knockdowns, no sacks allowed and no penalties in his first two starts at left guard.

D.J. Renteria: Growing up who was a role model that you looked up to?
Anthony Kilby: I would have to say my mother because she has been through tremendous hardships and still managed to stay strong, and also be there for me when I am going through something.

DR: What is the best thing about being a senior?
AK: I think just the feeling of completing some things such as football and my degree.

DR: What would be the biggest victory of the season for you?
AK: I would definitely have to say BYU. They have been a powerhouse for awhile and we open conference play with them.

DR: As an Albuquerque native what is the best thing about being from here and playing college football in your hometown?
AK: It’s home and always will be home, so it’s nice to be able to play my college football here. I have no complaints about it at all. The people are cool here and the weather is alright and there are no earthquakes!

DR: What word would the female population use to describe you?
AK: Sweet is the best description I guess. I’m a good listener and a people person.

DR: Who is the most fashionable person on the offensive line?
AK: Besides myself I would have to say (freshman) Byron Bell. He always has some fresh Jordan’s on with a nice t-shirt and to top it off he always has the hot backpacks for the schoolwork!

DR: What is your favorite food?
AK: Chicken is my all time favorite food. Especially Popeye’s chicken!

DR: If you could be any person for one day who would it be?
AK: I would like to be my mother just to be able to feel what it feels like to be such a strong and independent woman. That has got to be a wonderful feeling to be so strong.
