LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Three men finished among the top-10 to lead the University of New Mexico B team to a second place finish (60 points) this morning at New Mexico State’s annual Kachina Classsic meet. Junior transfer Lee Emanuel and sophomore Alex Willis finished 5-6, while redshirt freshman Yuval Carmi was eighth, to pace the Lobos. The UNM women’s B team, meanwhile, finished fourth with 110 points.
Emanuel completed the irregular 7,400-meter course in 23:57.1, ten seconds ahead of Willis. Carmi clocked a time of 24:10.2. Seniors Chris Bratton (22nd – 25:13.7) and Erik Coleman (41st – 27:58.8) capped the scoring.
The women received a 14th place finish from sophomore Lynn Brasher (20:04.5), while senior Stasia Ploskonka was 20th (20:33.8). Sophomore Kelly McCabe ran third for the Lobos and 22nd overall with a time of 21:21.1. Junior Cheryl Gourley (29th – 22:05.4) and freshman Brittany Cruickshank (30th – 22:05.7) capped the UNM scoring.
New Mexico returns to action next Friday with a trip to Eugene, Ore. for the elite Bill Dellinger Invitational. The UNM men will run at full strength for the first time this fall when All-American senior Jeremy Johnson makes his season debut at Oregon.
