Q & A With Travis Brown

Q & A With Travis BrownQ & A With Travis Brown

Aug. 30, 2007

Senior wide receiver Travis Brown is a third-year starter who is coming off a breakthrough 2006 campaign in which he led the Lobos in receptions and receiving yards en route to first team all-Mountain West Conference honors. A smart, polished wide receiver who runs good routes, Brown is also a very sure-handed pass catcher. He has good speed, is a threat with the ball in his hands and is not afraid to go across the middle and catch the ball in traffic. He is also an excellent downfield blocker.

The West Covina, Calif. product has been a key member of the UNM offense since he broke into the receiver rotation as a true freshman in 2004. Brown entered the 2006 season having caught at least one pass in 25 consecutive games and 30 of his 33 career games. He is 9th all-time at UNM with 106 career receptions (1,078 yards – 10.9 avg.). Brown was voted 2007 offensive team captain, along with fellow WR Marcus Smith.

D.J Renteria: What is the most exciting thing about the season getting started?
Travis Brown: I am a senior finally! It’s been a long time coming. I have worked really hard to get to this point and look forward to enjoying all the benefits.

DR: What is your most prized possession?
TB: Besides my mother, everyone knows that I am a big cell phone guy. After all I do have three phones. Can’t live without my phone man!

DR: If you were a super hero what would be your name?
TB: My name would definitely be something to do with my hands so I am going to say “Daggers”. They used to call me that in high school. It has to do with my strong hands.

DR: What has been your favorite course you have taken during your time at UNM?
TB: Pilates has been the best course ever because it had me looking real good when I went home for the summer.

DR: If you are the fashion police for the team what coach is the most fashionable/least fashionable?
TB: Coach (Buzz) Preston. He still gets pretty fly when it comes to fashion. Coach (Matt) Wells is still young and he shouldn’t have any excuses for the lack of fashion.

DR: Which teammate of yours do you believe is poised for a breakout season?
TB: Donovan Porterie. He has worked extra hard this off season and has improved greatly. Also Glover Quin has put in lots of extra hours trying to remain one of the best cover corners in the Mountain West Conference.
