New Mexico Head Coach Rocky Long
“I thought the kicking game was probably the downfall of our team. We lost field position in the first half and we had a chance to take the lead, more than a touchdown lead, if we make field goals in the first half.”
“We went for (it on) fourth down every time it was less than two yards. You’re really taking a chance on losing your field position that you already have and you’re taking a chance on punting it down there because you only gain 10 or 12 yards on field position if you punt it in the end zone. We’ve got 11 other games to play and we have to get our kicker ready to kick some field goals when it counts.”
“I thought the difference was not being able to score touchdowns when we got in the red zone. The defense gave up one big play in the whole game and that was the difference…when you blitz as much as we do, you’re going to give up a big play from time to time.”
“I don’t think Donovan (Porterie) played very well, but I thought the offense moved the ball very well. We just didn’t get any touchdowns.”
