With classes set to begin on Monday, Aug. 20, the Student Activities Center at the University of New Mexico kicked off its Welcome Back Days with Friday Night Live at the Student Union Building last night. An evening full of great events, including Casino Games, Henna Tattoos, Karaoke, Salsa Dance Lessons and Video Games on Projection Screens, was also well represented by Lobo athletics.
A number of student-athletes joined in the first event of the new school year at the SUB, helping to spread the excitement for their respective upcoming seasons. Following the event, a special ceremony was held on Johnson Field where new lights for the field were turned on for the first time. Speakers at the ceremony included University President Dr. David J. Schmidly. At the conclusion of the lighting ceremony, the men’s soccer team faced off against the volleyball team in an impromptu match on the newly illuminated grass.
The start of school means the start of action for New Mexico’s fall sports teams. Here is a list of some of the upcoming home openers for various Lobo teams. Click on each sport for a full schedule.
