ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico director of athletics Paul Krebs today announced Jill Trujillo as the ninth head women’s golf coach in Lobo history. Trujillo was promoted to head coach after serving as the interim coach for the latter part of the 2007 season and guiding UNM to a 22nd place finish at the NCAA Championships.

“Jill is an outstanding golf coach and has proven to be more than capable during this interim transition period,” said Krebs. “Jill is a Lobo alum, who is amazing with the student-athletes and knows what it takes to compete at the national level. She has the respect nationally among her peers as well. I’m delighted that she is on board and we can continue the strong tradition of our women’s golf program.”

Trujillo has been with the UNM women’s golf program for the last three years serving as an assistant coach. Trujillo helped lead the Lobos to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, while remaining nationally-ranked and among the nation’s elite programs.

“I’m honored to be given the opportunity to give back to the university who gave me so much in my young adulthood,” said Trujillo. “I’m thrilled to follow in the footsteps of great past coaches like Mercedes Gugisberg, Dick McGuire, Henry Sandles, John Speary and Sarah Hindi. I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence here at UNM as we strive to capture the school’s first women’s golf NCAA team championship.”

Prior to joining the UNM staff, Trujillo was the head golf professional at the Isleta Eagle Golf Course. Trujillo was responsible for the overall operations at the course from 1996 to 2003, and was the Tournament Director for numerous events, including the Futures Golf Tour, the PGA Junior Series and the AJGA Southwestern. While working for Isleta, Trujillo earned numerous accolades, including the 1997 Sun Country Section PGA Merchandiser of the Year, the 2001 Junior Golf Leader award and the LPGA Central Section Professional of the Year for 2000 and 2002. In addition, she was named one of Golf For Women magazine’s Top 50 teachers in the United States in 2002 and 2003.

Trujillo served as the assistant golf professional at the UNM Championship Course from 1990 until August of 1996. During her tenure, Trujillo assisted with the day-to-day operations at the course.

The Silver City, N.M., native graduated from UNM in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Trujillo was a member of the Lobo women’s golf team from 1986-90, and earned all-conference and academic all-conference honors her senior season. She also won the 1988 New Mexico Women’s Amateur Open.

Trujillo has 17 years of experience as a golf professional and is a Class A member of the PGA of America and the LPGA T&CP.
