The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team began preparations for the its foreign tour of the Bahamas at the Rudy Davalos Basketball Center today. The Lobos are allowed ten days of practice before leaving on their trip to Nassau on May 25-June 1.

The Bahamas tour was setup by Basketball Travelers, Inc., and gives the Lobos a chance to face off against Bahamian Club teams. Today’s morning practice consisted of individual skill, two-on-two and shooting drills and some full court conditioning drills. The Lobos also worked on team defense and some full-court fast-break fundamentals.

Quotes From the Lobos
Senior Tony Danridge
“It was good to come out here and run a little bit. I always like some full court ball with my teammates. Coach taught us a bunch of new drills to work on and some new concepts. They are getting us ready for our trip, but more importantly it will help us for next year.”

Junior Chad Toppert
“The first day of practice was good. We worked on our individual skills and it was the first time we have had everyone together to work on some offense and defense as well. Today we focused on team defense and being in the correct spots. Eventually we will focus on offense but today we worked hard on defense.”

Junior Daniel Faris
“It went well today. We did a lot of work on fundamentals and a bunch of drills. I think everyone got better today. I feel good, a little tired, but it was fun.”

Senior Blake Harden
“It was good to see what the coaches’ styles are going to be. They’ve got us out there running hard with a lot of transition stuff. My legs feel good. They will get stronger as we go, but it was good for the first day.”
