THE GAME: The Lobos (25-25, 11-10 MWC) wrap up the regular season this week on the road. They are in Lubbock, Texas on Monday, May 14 for a single game at 3 p.m. The game is a make-up of the April 17 game that was cancelled due to New Mexico’s series at Air Force being postponed for two days. The Lobos are likely to start right-handed junior Adam Skelton (1-1, 5.68 ERA). Texas Tech has not announced a starter for the day’s action.

LOOKING AT THE LOBOS: New Mexico, 25-25 overall and 11-10 in the Mountain West Conference, is coming off a series sweep of UNLV this past weekend. The Lobos hit .358 against the Rebels in three games, led by Jordan Pacheco and Ian Hollick. Pacheco hit .636 with a team-high six runs, four RBI and seven hits while Hollick hit .600, increasing his hit streak to a career-high 17 straight games. UNM’s pitching staff posted a 3.00 ERA, led by reliever Brandon Hewett, who earned his first win, shutting out UNLV in 2.2 innings of relief while striking out a career-high four batters.
HISTORY LESSONS: The season series between UNM and Texas Tech is deadlocked at 1-1 with today’s game the deciding contest. The Lobos began the season on Feb. 7, snapping an eight-game losing streak to the Red Raiders with a 15-13 win. UNM hit .421 (16-for-38) with six home runs, led by Jordan Pacheco’s 3-for-4 performance that included two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored.
Texas Tech got revenge on Feb. 27, coming back from an 8-2 deficit to after six for a 10-8 win. The Red Raiders were carried by Roger Kieschnick, who had a 12-game hit streak extended in the first inning with a solo home run. He finished the day 5-for-5 with three RBI and five runs scored.
All-time, Texas Tech leads the series, 52-31-1. New Mexico is 15-36 in Lubbock and 16-34-1 in Albuquerque. Head coach Rich Alday is 12-38 against the Red Raiders, going 7-13 at home and 5-25 on the road.
HOT-HITTING HOLLICK: Ian Hollick has been red-hot lately, pounding out a 17-game hit streak. The streak is his career-high and tops the 11-game streak he has to start this season. Over the last 17 games, he has been hitting .389 with 13 runs scored, eight RBI and nine walks. Over the weekend, he hit .600 (6-for-10) against UNLV.
THE BROOM: The Lobos won all three games against UNLV, marking their first series win against the Rebels since 2004 and their first sweep since 2000. They won 9-4 on Thursday, 7-4 on Friday and 6-5 on Sunday, hitting .358 as a team with a 3.00 ERA.
COPY CAT: For the second straight Thursday, Stephen Smith has a shutout going through seven innings. Against BYU, he ended up with the loss but had better results this week, going on for a complete-game win. It was the first time in his career at New Mexico that he had thrown a complete game. The win, his sixth, ties him with Bobby LaFromboise for the team-high.
