The 2007 Read With the Lobos was recently completed and results of the six-week program show that 846 students participated from 28 schools across New Mexico. These students together read a total of 8,009 books! Read With the Lobos is a community relations project sponsored by New Mexico Student Loans and conducted by the University of New Mexico Athletics Department.
Student are asked to read “reading for fun” books. For every six books read, students received two tickets to a Lobo softball or baseball game. At the end of the program, the top eight readers from all participating schools – four from the elementary schools and four from the middle schools – and the teacher from the school with the highest participation, will receive tickets to the Lobo Youth Day BAseball game on May 12. Winners will also be honored with an on-field presentation for their hard work. The top overall reader will also receive an invitation to throw out the first pitch at the May 12 game.
Los Lunas Elementary School had the highest number of participating students (138), and Jennifer Grajeda from Mission Avenue Elementary School was the overall winner – reading a total of 90 books during the 6-week period!
