The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is in eighth place after two rounds at the 19-team PING BYU Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah. New Mexico is 7-over par for tournament with BYU in the team lead at 26-under par at the 7,001-yard par-72 Riverside Country Club.
Senior Charlie Beljan leads the way for UNM at 4-under after two rounds. He is in eighth place in the individual race after an opening round 67 and a 1-over 73 in the second round.
Junior Robb Birebaum is tied for 30th overall at 1-over after two rounds. He shot a 73 in the first round and an even par 72 in the second. Freshman Kyle Nielsen is 4-over after two rounds, posting a 76 and a 72 on the first day. He is currently tied for 47th. Sophomore Steve Saunders is 6-over (74-76=150) while sophomore Parker Pemberton is 10-over (78-76=154).
Play concludes Saturday with the third round beginning at 8:00 a.m. (M.D.T.).
