FORT WORTH, Texas – The road woes continued for the 46th-ranked Lobo men’s tennis team this afternoon, falling 4-2 at TCU. New Mexico, falling to 14-8 overall and 3-3 in the Mountain West Conference, concluded the regular season without a win on an opponent’s home court, going 0-7.
The teams jumped right into singles action with junior Kamil Pajkowski solidifying the first point. But TCU’s Kriegler Brink evened the match at 1-1, topping sophomore Miles Bugby 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
Junior Chris Parkes netted his fourth straight singles win, topping Andrew Ulrich 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5. Again, TCU battled back, tying the match at 2-2 with Chris Biro’s come-from-behind win at No. 2. Biro, who fell 1-6 in the first set with sophomore Johnny Parkes, responded for a 7-5, 6-3 win in the second and third sets, respectively.
Radu Barbu gave the Horned Frogs their first advantage of the day, rallying from a 5-7 first set loss to take the final two, both 6-4, against sophomore Graeme Kassautzki. The Frogs’ leader, 109th-ranked Cosmin Cotet, clinched the upset with a 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 win at No. 1 over junior Max Jones.
The Lobos hit the court April 26-28 at the Mountain West Conference Tennis Championships, hosted by the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. At 3-3 overall, the Lobos will either earn the third seed if UNLV fell to Air Force or the fourth seed in the Rebels won.
