FORT WORTH, Texas – The 46th-ranked New Mexico Lobos soared to a 7-0 win over the U.S. Air Force Academy Saturday afternoon, claiming every match on the court. The win moves the Lobos to 14-7 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West Conference with just one match remaining in the regular season.
The Lobos put an end to the six-match double point losing streak, sweeping competition. Juniors Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski were back at No. 1, picking up their team-leading 18th win of the year. Junior Chris Parkes paired with his brother, sophomore Johnny Parkes, at No. 2, netting an 8-6 win. Sophomore Chandler Brass, seeing his first dual match doubles action of the season, completed the shutout, garnering an 8-2 win at No. 3 with freshman Joe Nicolazzi.
In singles action, Jones notched a three-set win at No. 1, ending a three-match losing skid. Bugby and Pajkowski rallied from losses yesterday with victories at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively.
Johnny Parkes, playing at No. 2, earned his third straight singles win and his 10th in the last 12 matches. Chris Parkes also won his third straight, stepping up to No. 4 for just the second time this season. Both surrendered just one game in their respective matches.
Brass, seeing singles dual match play for just the second time this season, came out on top at No. 6, blanking his opponent, 6-0, 6-0.
New Mexico’s final test before the Mountain West Conference Championships April 26-28 is tomorrow afternoon at TCU. The Lobos and the Horned Frogs take to the court at 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT.
