FORT WORTH, Texas – For the sixth straight match, the New Mexico men’s tennis team surrendered the double point to open competition. This time, it cost them a win, falling 4-3 to UNLV at TCU this afternoon.
All three of the Lobos points came in two-set victories in singles action. Sophomore Johnny Parkes handed Wesley Burrows a 6-1, 6-4 loss in Burrows’ first match at No. 2 this season. Sophomore Graeme Kassautzki win 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3, extending Brett Hunter’s losing streak to five straight contests. Junior Chris Parkes netted a 6-2, 6-4 win over David Campbell at No. 5, which was also Campbell’s fifth consecutive singles defeat.
The Lobos were swept in doubles action for just the second time this season. Junior Max Jones paired with sophomore Miles Bugby for the second time this spring, competing at No. 1 while junior Kamil Pajkowski teamed with Johnny Parkes for the first time this season at No. 2.
New Mexico falls to 13-7 overall and 2-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos return to the court tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT, taking on Air Force, which squares off with TCU this evening.
