Albuquerque, N.M. – In the Lobo Tennis Club today the No. 73 ranked Lobos (9-10, 2-4 MWC) earned their first shutout since their match against rival New Mexico State and dominated the Colorado State Rams in a 7-0 shutout dual performance to start out their final home matches.
The Lobos set out to play from the moment they stepped out on the court today to start out doubles action. Senior Nora Quintal and sophomore Maria Sotirchos earned the first New Mexico win of the day after they took out Kirsten Stople and Greer Satherlie in a fast 8-1 match. Ola Abou-Zekry and Jennifer Ryba secured the doubles point after an 8-2 win over Lauren Strasburger and Anette Pohjalainen.
In the singles action Lucy Scott earned the first singles point and led the team on their way to a shut out after defeating Satherlie in a 6-2, 6-2 match at the No. 5 position. No. 119 Abou-Zekry was out front at the No. 1 position for the Lobos and came in shortly behind Scott with the second singles point taking Emily Kirchem out 6-1, 6-3. From their the points continued to roll in from Sandra Zmak with her 6-2, 6-1 win over Strasburger, and Ryba’s 6-2, 6-3 victory over Stople. Quintal won her tie-breaking match after she and opponent Pohjalainen split the first two sets (6-2, 3-6, 10-6). White clinched the match at the No. 3 position after a long match that went into deuces nearly every point in the first set. White eventually took her match 7-6, 6-3 giving the Lobos a shutout performance.
The Lobos can be seen back in action on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. as they prepare to take on the Wyoming Cowgirls in their last weekend of regular season matches. Come out and support your Lobos!!!
