Salt Lake City, Utah – The No. 69 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team took a loss today from the Mountain West Conference standings leader, No. 35 BYU Cougars, in a neutral match played at the University of Utah. As the Lobos move into the second half of their conference play the team holds a record of 7-10, 0-4 MWC.
In doubles action the Lobos fought hard but came up short in wins. In singles three of the six matches went to three sets before being decided and Maria Sotirchos had two tight matches at the No. 6 spot. In the end however the team was unable to overcome the force of the 35th ranked Cougars and came away with one singles point. Mackenzie White held down the No. 3 spot defeating Chie Hayasaka in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 battle.
The Lobos take on Utah tomorrow in an away match that is set to start at 10:00 a.m. The match will mark the second half of conference play as well as New Mexico’s last match away from the Lobo club. The Lobos are set to finish their season at the Lobo Tennis Club starting April 12.
