TEMPE, Ariz. — New Mexico Freshman Jodi Ewart fired a 1-under par 71 to highlight the Lobos second round performance at the PING/ASU Invitational held at the par 72, 6,230-yard Karsten Golf Course. UNM carded a 297 team score and is in ninth place heading into the finals Sunday.
Ewart (71-71=142) is tied for 10th individually after shooting two rounds of 1-under. Sophomore Mikaela Backstedt (70-76=146) fell back to 19th place after firing a 4-over on the day. Py Bengtsson had her best round of the tournament carding an even par 72 and has a total of 152. Sophomore Morgan Grantham is tied for 64th and was 7-over par 79 in the second round. Junior Alexandra Phelps shot a 6-over par 78 and was three shots better than her opening round.
Freshman Britney Choy jumped into a tie for 36th after shooting a 2-over par 74. Choy, who is competing in her first tournament since the Dick McGuire Tournament in early September, has been playing unattached.
No. 2 Arizona leads the event at 11-under par, with No. 7 Vanderbilt in second at 5-over par. No. 5 Texas A&M is third and is shooting 7-over par after the second round. Jennifer Osborn leads the tournament individually at 8-under par 136. Osborn shot a 6-under par 66 in the second round and has a one shot lead heading into the finals.
The final round is Sunday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tournament can be followed online through www.Golfstat.com.
