Lobo Baseball at the 2006 MLK Elementary Read-A-Thon

The Spring 2007 Read with the Lobos program started its 6-week run from Monday, March 5, until Friday, April 20. UNM athletic’s reading program encourages elementary and middle school students to read with incentive prizes of athletics tickets. The current session is sponsored by New Mexico Student Loans of Albuquerque.

Over 30 elementary and middle schools are participating from Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Belen, Cuba, Rio Rancho, Cochiti, Jemez and Placitas.

Student are asked to read “reading for fun” books. For every six books read, students will receive two tickets to a Lobo softball or baseball game. At the end of the program, the top eight readers from all participating schools – four from the elementary schools and four from the middle schools – and the teacher from the school with the highest participation, will receive tickets to the Lobo Baseball Dugout Cookout on May 12. Winners will also be honored with an on-field presentation for their hard work. The top overall reader will also receive an invitation to throw out the first pitch at the May 12 game.
