BOULDER CITY, Nev. — The 16th-ranked New Mexico women’s golf team shot a 2-over par 290 team score on Tuesday during the second round of the UNLV Spring Invitational to fall into fourth place. UNM will begin its final round a shot behind third-place Idaho. BYU leads the event with a 13-under par 563 total.
Freshman Jodi Ewart entered the day tied for second after posting a 4-under 68 on Monday and took sole possession of the position Tuesday after shooting a 2-under par 70. Ewart remains a shot behind BYU’s Rachel Newren, who is at 7-under par 137. Sophomore Mikaela Backstedt jumped into a tie for seventh on the leaderboard after firing a 2-under par 70.
Junior Alexandra Phelps is tied for 23rd place with a 146 total after recording a 75 in the second round, while sophomore Py Bengtsson posted a 79 to tie for 62nd at 153.
Junior Giselle Claux carded a 75 on day two and has a total of 155 through two rounds. Claux is tied for 74th heading into the finals.
Final round action at the par-72, 6,199-yard layout is set to begin tomorrow at 8 a.m
