Albuquerque, N.M. – The No. 51 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team (7-3) swept their weekend matches after a 4-3 win over the Sacramento State Hornets yesterday in the Lobo Tennis Club.
The Lobos had a win in the doubles play with Mackenzie White and Nora Quintal defeating Martinez and Tarlkaganova (8-3). In singles action the team stepped up and won four of the six matches with all four wins coming in two sets. Lucy Scott came off first with a win over Shifris 6-1, 6-2. White was shortly behind her with a 6-2, 6-3 victory and Quintal tied up the match with the third win at the No. 5 spot after a 6-1, 6-2 win. Sandra clinched the match with a big win at the No. 2 spot taking out Lyssenko in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat.
Next week the team heads to California to take on what could be the toughest road trip ever, as they take on three top-28 teams in No. 28 UC Irvine, No. 15 Virginia Commonwealth and No. 24 Pepperdine.
