BOISE, Idaho – The 58th-ranked Lobo men’s tennis (7-2) team won its fourth straight match with a 7-0 shutout over the Idaho Vandals. The win kept New Mexico perfect against Idaho, improving to 3-0 in the all-time series.
Brothers Chris and Johnny Parkes paired up at No. 2 doubles for the fourth straight match and won, 8-2, keeping them undefeated as a tandem. Junior Max Jones teamed with sophomore Miles Bugby for an 8-4 victory at No. 1, clinching the doubles point. It was the first time all season Jones played a doubles match without junior Kamil Pajkowski.
New Mexico cruised through singles, taking only one match to three sets. Jones, who played the last three matches at No. 3, reclaimed his spot at No. 1 and won, 7-6, 6-1. Sophomore Johnny Parkes netted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 while junior Chris Parkes easily won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore Graeme Kassautzki surrendered just two games in each set, winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Bugby won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 while freshman Joe Nicolazzi completed the sweep with a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 win at No. 6.
Up next for the Lobos is the University of the Pacific (0-6). Doubles action is slated for 6 p.m. tonight and singles action is scheduled for 9 a.m. tomorrow. The Lobos wrap up the weekend with 27th-ranked Boise State tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
