Albuquerque, N.M. – In a shutout performance against rival New Mexico State (6-8) the 51st ranked Lobos (6-3) found the rhythm they’ve been looking for at home in the Lobo Tennis Club tonight with a 7-0 Aggie defeat.
New Mexico started the doubles play on top and never looked back. All three doubles teams defeated their opponents by three sets or less. UNM were victorious at all three positions with Ola Abou-Zekry and Lucy Scott leading the way at the No. 1 position. The tandem defeated Anne Fagegaltier and Aleksa Costa 8-2 before heading on to singles to win both their matches. Scott took the No. 4 position against Paulina Zuniga (7-5, 6-4) and Abou-Zekry led at the No. 1 spot with a win against Zeljka Juricek (6-1, 6-2).
At the No. 2 doubles spot Mackenzie White and Nora Quintal teamed up for a big win against Juricek and Nicole Finetell (8-3). In singles White rounded up the singles wins with her second victory of the day against Fintell (7-5, 6-3). Quintal came up with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat over No. 5 positioned Estelle Guillaumond.
The No. 3 doubles position also had an 8-3 win over Zuniga and Guillaumond from the duo of Jennifer Ryba and Sandra Zmak. Ryba held down the No. 6 singles spot over Costa coming in with a 6-4, 6-1 win while Zmak led the team with the first singles win at the No. 3 spot over Fagegaltier (6-1, 6-1).
