Men’s 10K Freestyle Results
The University of New Mexico ski team ended the first day of the 2007 NCAA Championships in 12th place overall after the men’s and women’s Nordic freestyle races. Freshman Polina Ermoshina had the best result of the day for the Lobos, placing 14th in the women’s 5K. UNM amassed 61 points on the day, 128 behind first place Northern Michigan who totalled 189 points after two of eight events.
Northern Michigan’s women’s squad dominated the 5K today, sweeping all three spots in the race. Lindsay Williams won with a time of 13:50.4. Ermoshina crossed the line in 14:57.8, helpinig the UNM women to a sixth place team finish in the event. Sophomore Melanie Zemp placed 21st in a time of 15:09.2. Junior Laura Van Alst, a 2006 All-American also raced for the Lobos today, crossing the line in 15:39.9 in 31st place.
Freshman Erlend Saetre was the only Lobo to race in the men’s 10K today. He placed 33rd overall in a time of 28:04.9, scoring seven points overall for New Mexico.
New Mexico continues action tomorrow with the men’s and women’s giant slalom. Skiing begins at 7:00 a.m. (M.S.T.) with the men’s runs, followed by the women’s two runs. Live results are availble on www.eisaskiing.org.
