Albuquerque, N.M. – The No. 66 men’s tennis team is well on their way to a weekend sweep of their home matches after they downed the Nevada Wolf Pack in a 7-0 shutout performance today at the Lobo Tennis Club. The Lobos extend their record to 5-1 as they head into their final match of the weekend against the Sacramento State Hornets tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
New Mexico swept the doubles matches with scores that showed they were the dominant team. None of the opponents were able to win more than four games in each match. Johnny Parkes and Chris Parkes led the pack at the No. 2 position defeatin Gabe Kanzelmeyer and Alex Daruty 8-3. Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski at the No. 1 spot and Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Nicolazzi at the No. 3 brought in a pair of 8-4 wins against the Wolf Pack.
Singles action was proved to be just as successful with the Lobos taking all six singles points with five of the six matches being held to two sets. Kassautzki held down the No. 2 spot and led the Lobos as he defeated Daruty in a 6-1, 6-1 match. Chris Parkes finished shortly behind him without allowing Nevada’s Arzhang Derakhshani one game in both sets in a 6-0, 6-0 finish. Pajkowski finished the No. 4 spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Augustin Myard and Max Jones took out Eldar Dzhafarov 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3. Johnny Parkes held onto the No. 1 spot again after a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 victory and Nicolazzi rounded out the singles wins after taking out Guerin Smith at the No. 6 spot (7-6, 6-2).
The final match of the weekend will take place tomorrow, Sunday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. against the Sacramento State Hornets. Come watch as the Lobos fight for a weekend sweep at the Lobo Tennis Club.
