Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team took on in-state rival New Mexico State University tonight at the Lobo Tennis Club in a match that ended with a 6-1 victory bringing the Lobos to a 4-1 record.
In doubles action Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski teamed up at the No. 1 spot to lead the Lobos in taking the doubles point. Jones and Pajkowski had a long match but defeated NMSU’s Roman Stoisavljevic and Stjepan Beg 9-8 (1). Chris and Johnny Parkes brought in the first doubles victory at the No. 2 spot after an 8-4 win over Gustave Diep and Eduardo Salas.
The Lobos continued to show their strength in singles play winning five of the six matches. Chris Parkes had the first New Mexico win at the No. 6 singles spot coming in with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Alejandro de Mucha. Pajkowski’s 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Brice Magnanou ended shortly after at the No. 5 spot. Graeme Kassautzki earned his victory over the Aggies’ Beg at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-0) and Johnny Parkes defeated Stoisavljevic for the second time tonight in a 6-3, 7-5 match at the No. 1 spot. Miles Bugby rounded out the singles wins with a defeat over Diep (4-6, 6-3, 10-4) at the No. 4 position and brought the match total to 6-1.
New Mexico continues their home action tomorrow Saturday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. in the Lobo Tennis Club. Come support your Lobos as they take on Nevada-Reno!
