New Mexico women’s golf opens the 2007 spring schedule next week at the Wildcat Invitational on Feb. 26-27 in Tucson, Ariz. The Lobos face a difficult slate of opponents including four of the Top 5 teams in the country. UNM is coming off a strong fall campaign that featured two top five finishes. The Lobos highest finish came at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Oct. 9-11 in Seattle, Wash., when they placed second. Freshman Jodi Ewart paced UNM in three of four tournaments and finished second at the Ihlanfeldt Invitational.

The Course: The 2007 Wildcat Invitational will be held at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The event is 54-holes and will be played on a par 71-6,238 yard course.

The Field: The tournament field includes seven teams in the Top 10 according to the recent Golfweek rankings and 12 teams in the Top 25. The teams participating include, Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, California, Duke, Pepperdine, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Washington, New Mexico.

The Lineup: UNM women’s golf travels five student-athletes to the Wildcat Invitational on Feb. 26-27. Freshman Jodi Ewart makes her fifth tournament this year and is joined by sophomores Py Bengtsson, Mikaela Backstedt. Juniors Alexandra Phelps and Giselle Claux are the two upper classmen in the field for the Lobos.
