EDENTON, N.C. – The Edenton Steamers have added leadership to the 2007 coaching staff by hiring Josh Scott as head coach Marty Smith’s assistant for the upcoming season.
“Josh has great experience in baseball and I am excited to have a coach of his ability join the Steamers staff,” said Smith.
Scott is in his first year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Lobos. His coaching experience also includes two years as the pitching and catching coach for Angelo State University (San Angelo, Texas) and three summers in the collegiate summer league ranks, with 2006 spent in the Cape Cod League.
Scott excelled as a starting pitcher for Baylor University from 1997-2001 compiling an overall record of 21-10 and starting the most games in school history. He spent three summers pitching in the Alaska, Cape Cod and Valley Baseball Leagues and was a relief pitcher in the Philadelphia Phillies Minor league system during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor in psychology and his Masters from Angelo State.
The Edenton Steamers compete in the Coastal Plain League, a summer collegiate baseball league that features 15 teams in three states (N.C., S.C., Va.). The wooden bat league is certified by Major League Baseball and offers players an opportunity to improve their skills in a professional baseball environment. The Steamers are the defending 2004 and 2005 Coastal Plain League Champions.
