SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is currently tied for sixth at the 22-team John Burns Intercollegiate in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The Lobos shot a 1-under par 287 in the opening round on the par-72, 6,918 yard Leilehua Golf Course. The current team lead belongs to UNLV at 11-under par, two strokes in front of BYU.
Individually, UNM was led by senior Charlie Beljan, who is currently tied for fourth at 4-under par (68). Other Lobo results were junior Robb Bierbaum is tied for 22nd at 1-under par (71), sophomore Dan Saltz is at even par (72) tied for 35th, sophomore Parker Pemberton is tied for 88th at 4-over par (76), sophomore Nick Geyer is tied for 93rd at 5-over par (77) and sophomore Steve Saunders, playing as an individual is tied for 49th at 1-over par (73).
The individual lead belongs to Michael Drake of Long Beach State at 7-under par, one-stroke in front of Nick Becker of BYU.
The John Burns Intercollegiate continues the next two days with 18-holes played each day beginning at 8:00 AM (HST).
