Feb. 12, 2007
Thirty “All-Star” researchers (and their teachers) with their sports related research projects will be recognized at the New Mexico men’s basketball game vs. UNLV on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. Each participating student and his/her guest will be admitted to the game as our honored guests.
Teachers have the opportunity to select the top 3 projects from their local Science and Engineering Fair that meet the following requirements:
-The research topic is related to enhancing athletic performance-The background articles cited in the project are from peer-reviewed sources-The abstract is well-written, succinct summary (abstract) not exceeding 250 words
There will be a special reception recognizing each student with officials from Intel RR, Intel ISEF 2007 Host Committee, UNM Athletics, UNM Libraries and the UNM Office of the Vice President for Research & Economic Development. Students will be asked to display their project inside The Pit during the pregame and be prepared to interact with the general public.
This program – Winning With Research – hopes to promote more participation in New Mexico’s local, regional and state science and engineering fair competitions. These competitions are all part of the worldwide affiliated fair network that ultimately leads to the world’s premier high school research competition, Intel ISEF, which awards over $4 million in college tuitions, trips, computers and cash.
Ultimately, this effort is to energize student interests so they can continue their passion at New Mexico’s top research university after graduation.
All high school and middle school students interested in registering to be part of the Intel-Winning With Research event please contact Darren Dunn at (505) 925-5014.
