The Universty of New Mexico Nordic ski team continued the Montana State Invitational today with the men’s and women’s freestyle races in Bozeman, Mont. The Lobos finished 6th in the men’s 10K and 6th in the women’s 5K races today. New Mexico is in seventh place overall in the team standing’s following four of eight events at the MSU Invite.

Colorado’s Kit Richmond won the men’s race with a time of 25:40.45 while sophomore Casey Dyck led the Lobos with a 21st place time of 27:32.64. Freshman Vsevolod Soloviev was the next New Mexico skier to cross the finish line in 26th place (28:12.28). Senior Jedd Young also scored for the Lobos with a 28th place time of 28:17.65.

Freshman Polina Ermoshina had a strong showing with her first top-10 as a Lobo. She placed seventh in the women’s 5K with a time of 15:01.51. Colorado’s Maria Grevsgaard won the race in 14:16.52. Sophomore Melanie Zemp posted a time of 15:34.62, good enough for 20th place. Sophomore Crystin Jaques placed 25th (15:48.72), while junior Laura Van Alst finished 27th (15:56.36). Junior Tiffany Callahan also raced today, placing 40th overall (17:03.59).

The Lobos will conclude the Nordic portion of the MSU Invite tomorrow with the men’s and women’s classic races. The Alpine men’s and women’s giant slalom races that would conclude the MSU Invite were cancelled earlier in the season are still yet to be made up.
