BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior third baseman Ian Hollick was honored by Rivals.com on the 2007 Preseason Baseball All-America second team, garnering his national recognition for the second time this season. He was named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American third team in December.
Hollick is one of just two players from the Mountain West Conference to make the list. TCU pitcher Jake Arrieta made the first team. Both teams were comprised of eight position players, two designated hitters, a utility player, four starting pitchers and two relief pitchers.
Hollick is coming off a breakout season, where he was named to the all-MWC first team as a third baseman and honored on the ESPN the Magazine District VI Academic first team. He played and started in 56 of UNM’s 59 games, hitting a team-high .376 (83-for-221) with 49 runs, 16 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 65 RBI, 30 walks and five stolen bases. Hollick compiled a 14-game hit streak during the season and ended with a nine-game hit streak in tact. He ranked 49th in the nation in RBI per game (1.16) and 94th in bat-ting average (.376). In the MWC, Hollick placed third in batting average (.376) and double-play groundouts (8), fourth in on-base percentage (.457), sixth in RBI (65), seventh in slugging percentage (.624) and home runs (11), eighth in total bases (138), ninth in hits (83) and 10th in doubles (16), triples (3) and assists (122).
