Albuquerque, N.M.

New Mexico head coach Ritchie McKay
“Colorado State is a good team. I was very proud of our guys’ effort in the second half. We were looking for more consistency today and a little better execution. I think this group did a much better job of that today. The difference in the game was that CSU shot 63 percent from the field and made 11 three-pointers. If you haven’t noticed Jason Smith is a good player. The key to Colorado State’s team is they have better people around him. We picked our poison and they did a nice job of knocking down the shots. I’m proud of our guys for the way they fought.”

Colorado State head coach Dale Layer
“We haven’t been happy in Albuquerque a lot of years. I thought our guy played with tremendous heart. We matched their emotion early and I thought we made some shots. Stephan (Gilling), Tim (Denson) and Tyler (Smith) all made big shots to complement Jason’s (Smith) terrific performance. It’s a team effort and I’m proud of our guys for hanging in there and playing quite possibly our best game in such a historic and hostile environment.”

“Obviously, we caught them on an off night with J.R. (Giddens) out. I know that factored into it. They’re a whole different team without him, but I think our guys had great resolve and big hearts to be able to pull off the win.”
