New Mexico vs. Pepperdine
Albuquerque, N.M. – The Pit/Bob King Court

Quotes From New Mexico Head Coach Ritchie McKay
“That was a great win. I’m really, really pleased with our guys because I was worried we weren’t going to have a normal crowd because of the snow. Pepperdine is a wishbone offense in terms of being very hard to prepare for in no days to do it. We did a little bit of stuff during the week without telling our guys that it was Pepperdine. We didn’t guard it as effectively as I would have liked, but we did a great job offensively, especially being unselfish.”

(on New Mexico’s 27 assists to 12 turnovers):
“The emphasis has been all week to take care of the ball. I think Pepperdine is in the top-10 in the nation in steals, so it’s a defense that is really, really unique. I thought our guys were great out of it.”

(on the first half comeback):

“The biggest section of the game was when we were down 13 and we hit a couple threes and the crowd was in the game. That got us over the hump.”

Quotes From Pepperdine Head Coach Vance Walberg
(on the Lobos’ pivotal 19-0 first half run):
“That spurt was a big difference. I wanted our guys to try to play through it. I’m a little stubborn and probably should have called another timeout during that spurt, but I want them to learn to not look towards me.”

“I’ll give New Mexico credit and I’ll give our kids credit. We lose our best player last night (Tom Pranciliauskas), he goes down with a separated shoulder and I would have zoned us all night. We really only have two guys who can shoot and we lost half of our shooters. For our kids to do what they did, I’m very proud of our team. We’re going to fight and scrap. We just are not the smartest team right now. We’ve got to learn how to do things a little smarter.”
