TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior second baseman Jordan Pacheco (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) was named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America second team, released today by Collegiate Baseball. Senior first baseman Daniel Stovall (Midland, Texas/Midland HS) and junior third baseman Ian Hollick (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS) were honored on the third team.
Pacheco, an all-Mountain West Conference first team honoree for the second consecutive season, hit .351 (87-for-248) with a team-high 79 runs scored, 21 doubles, five home runs, 43 RBI, 39 walks and 11 stolen bases as the leadoff hitter. He started all 59 games for UNM, ranked third in the nation in runs per game (1.37) and aided in 55 of New Mexico’s 75 double plays, the most in the nation. Pacheco led the MWC in runs (79), finished second in hits (87), doubles (21), walks (39), total plate appearances (305) and fielding double plays (55), third in on base percentage (.461) and at bats (248), fifth in hit by pitch (14) and assists (190) and 10th in total bases (125), stolen bases (11), stea lattempts (14) and chances (342). Prior to his sophomore season in 2006, he was named to the 2006 Wallace Watch List, all-MWC team, Louisville Slugger All-American second team and was listed as Collegiate Baseball’s projected MWC Player of the Year.
Stovall, named to the 2007 Wallace Watch list earlier this month, was named to the all-MWC second team as a first baseman last season, hitting .323 (86-for-266) with 51 runs, 75 RBI, 10 homers, two triples, 25 doubles and 17 walks while starting all 59 games. He turned 57 of UNM’s nation-leading 75 double plays, ranked 13th nationally in doubles per game (0.42) and 16th in RBI (1.27 pg). Stovall led the MWC in putouts (483), fielding double plays, doubles, at bats (266) and double play groundouts (9) while ranking second in the MWC in RBI, third in chances (511) and hits, fourth in plate appearances (288) and fielding percentage (.994), fifth in strikeouts (46) and seventh in total bases(145). This is his first nod on the preseason team in his career. He was honored on the all-freshman team in 2004.
Hollick is coming off a breakout season, where he was named to the all-MWC first team as a third baseman and honored on the ESPN the Magazine District VI Academic first team. He played and started in 56 of UNM’s 59 games, hitting a team-high .376 (83-for-221) with 49 runs, 16 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 65 RBI, 30 walks and five stolen bases. Hollick compiled a 14-game hit streak during the season and ended with a nine-game hit streak in tact. He ranked 49th in the nation in RBI per game (1.16) and 94th in bat-ting average (.376). In the MWC, Hollick placed third in batting average (.376) and double-play groundouts (8), fourth in on-base percentage (.457), sixth in RBI (65), seventh in slugging percentage (.624) and home runs (11), eighth in total bases (138), ninth in hits (83) and 10th in doubles (16), triples (3) and assists (122).
The Lobos kick off the 2007 season Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Texas Tech, followed by a three-game series Feb. 9-11 at Arizona. Their first home game is slated for Friday, Feb. 23, the first game in a three-game series vs. Texas State.
