POSTGAME QUOTES
New Mexico vs. North Carolina A&T
The Pit / Bob King Court – Albuquerque, N.M.
Saturday, December 16, 2006
New Mexico Head Coach Ritchie McKay
“I thought Chad (Toppert) did a great job defensively because Chad’s not known for his defense. I thought Chad’s biggest play was when there was a 50-50 ball at half court and he came up with the loose ball. I think we scored a dunk or a lay-up out of it. I love plays like that, especially at this juncture of the season when we’re searching for that swagger.”
North Carolina A&T Head Coach Jerry Eaves
“I think it was an excellent game. They did a good job in the second half to pick up the intensity. We turned it over a little bit against their 1-3-1 half court trap, which was disappointing to me because we know what to do with that. We’re an excellent passing and perimeter shooting team. That should have been to our advantage and it wasn’t.”
On J.R. Giddens entering the second half:
“It affected us a little bit. I mean, he’s a good player but truly it wasn’t really a factor. He’s a good player but he’s not the team. I still believe that if we played them at a neutral court we could beat them.”
