New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan

“A good college game. A little too much fouling, but it was a physical game. One of keys was playing Noelle Quinn as best we could. She’s an excellent player. She got 15 points, but didn’t shoot a great percentage (5-17). They couldn’t stop Dionne (Marsh). In the beginning, I thought ‘What’s up with Julie?’ All of a sudden she couldn’t hit her shots; a little bit too pumped up and wanting to beat UCLA and not relaxed. Then she got on that roll when Dionne was out.”

“Another key was Timi’s (E-Nunu) rebounding. She did a great job with five boards in limited minutes. I needed her to play well because Angela (Hartill) was in foul trouble for a lot of the game.”

“That’s an excellent team. It’s a team that you want to beat. It’s a team that has a strong tradition.”

“We didn’t block out Lindsey Pluimer very well at all. She really hurt us.”

“I thought mixing up our man and zone (defenses) had some value.”

UCLA head coach Kathy Olivier

“It was a very hard fought game by both teams. I wasimpressed with how we played under these types ofconditions. Their fan support is worth a good 10 to 15points. It was nice to see us do some things and executewell under these conditions. We just got taken out of thegame with our fouls.”

(on Julie Briody’s play down the stretch) — “She hit somebig shots but we had to play a little more passive becausewe got hit boom, boom, boom on fouls. When that happensit’s natural instinct to lay off a little. She hit somebig shots. That girl’s good. “

“It’s big that we come out to this environment. I justhope they repay us and come to our place next year.”
