The University of New Mexico Nordic Ski Team skied in 5/10K USSA Classic races on Saturday in Breckenridge, Colo. Three Lobo women and two men finished in the top-10 and freshman Polina Ermoshina won the junior women’s race.
In the senior women’s 5K, sophomore Crystin Jaques placed third overall while sophomore Melanie Zemp finished fifth. Junior Tiffany Callahan had a strong showing with an 11th place finish, while junior Laura Van Alst placed 14th. Ermoshina’s time of 18:31.3 in the junior women’s 5K not only won that race, but would have been fifth among the senior women.
On the men’s side freshman Veselvod Soloviev led the Lobos with an eight place finish in the 10K. Sophomore Erlend Saetre also had a top-10 with a tenth place showing. Sophomore Casey Dyck finished 12th while senior Jedd Young was 19th among the senior men. Sophomore Rick Grahn finished 13th among the junior men.
