Lobos Travel to San Francisco for NCAA First Round
University of New Mexico sophomore forward Chris Wright was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week today, following his two-goal, one assist performance in the title-clinching 3-0 win against Denver on Sunday. Wright scored in the fourth minute of action against the Pioneers to spark the shutout win over DU. He also added an assist and a second goal in the second half to help the Lobos clinch their third-straight MPSF Title.
Wright now has six goals and three assists on the year, leading the MPSF in goals and points against NCAA competition in 2006. Sunday’s match was also the second mulit-goal game of the season for Wright and the third of his career. Wright now has eight career goals and his first MPSF Player of the Week Award.
With the win, New Mexico improved to 13-3-3 and 8-1-1 in MPSF action. Despite being ranked as high as eighth in the nation this week, the Lobos were sent packing for the NCAA Tournament and will play at San Francisco in the first round. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. (M.S.T.) and Live Audio and GameTracker will be available for the match on GoLobos.com.
