The University of New Mexico Nordic ski team finished competition in the FIS Super Tour Classic in West Yellowstone, Mont., on yesterday. The Lobos raced against the top skiers in the country as well as a number of collegiate teams in the 10/15K Classic race on Sunday. Freshman Paulina Ermoshina had the top finish for New Mexico, placing 15th overall, fourth among the collegiate skiers, in the women’s 10K.

Ermoshina’s time of 31:56.7 was less than 1:48 off the pace set by race winner and former Lobo Kristina Strandberg. Sophomore Crystin Jaques was fifth among college skiers, placing 18th overall. Also racing for the Lobo women were sophomore Melaine Zemp who placed 30th overall and junior Laura Van Alst who finished 61st out of 88 skiers starting the race.

The Lobo men were led by sophomore Casey Dyck’s 39th overall finish among 115 racers in the 15K Classic. Dyck was also 10th among the collegiate skiers. Also racing for the Lobo men were sophomore Erlend Saetre (42nd), freshman Vsevolod Soloviev (47th) and sophomore Rick Grahn (82nd).

The Nordic team will hit the slopes next on Dec. 2 in Breckenridge, Colo., for 5/10K Classic races sponsored by the United States Ski Association.
