IRVINE, Calif. – The University of New Mexico women’s swimming team finished tenth, with a total of 349 points, at the Speedo Cup Invitational hosted by the University of California-Irvine. The Lobos finished 11th last year with 300.5 pts. BYU’s 1088 pts. defeated all the competition.

Day three started off with the 1650-yard freestyle. Junior Amina Adnan was the first Lobo to touch the wall, finishing in 19th, with a final time of 18:15.79. In the 200-yard backstroke, junior Ashley LaBree took 13th clocking in a final time of 2:09.53. Junior Tori Clarridge placed 25th (00:54.04) in the 100-yard free with teammate senior Jenna Syverson finishing right behind in 26th (00:54.05). Junior Andrea Zarins had the best individual finish of the day in the 200-yard butterfly. Zarins took 11th with a final time of 2:23.99. In the 200-yard fly freshman Jennifer Patterson finished 18th (2:10.44). The final event of the Speedo Cup Invite was the 400-yard free relay. Senior Jennifer Hale, freshman Theresa Rogers, Syverson and Clarridge made up the eighth place finishing team in a time of 3:34.01.

The Lobos resume competition on Nov. 30. when the swimmers and divers will head in separate directions. The divers will be in Austin, Texas where they will participate in a Diving Invite hosted by the University of Texas. The swimmers will be in West Lafayette, Ind. to compete in the US Open.
