IRVINE, Calif. – The University of New Mexico’s swimming team fell to tenth place after day two of the Speedo Cup Invitational, hosted by the University of California-Irvine. The Lobos currently have 252 total points. BYU continues to lead the way with a total of 689 points.

Freshman Ashley Grisdale had the best individual finish for the Lobos placing tenth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:31.28). Grisdale, along with teammates seniors Jennifer Hale and Jenna Syverson and junior Andrea Zarins, made up the 200-yard medley relay team that took 11th (1:50.24). Sophomore Katrina McLoughlin was the first Lobo to touch the wall in the 100-yard butterfly placing 24th and clocking in a final time of 00:58.56. Freshman Theresa Rogers came in 19th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.85). Zarins and Rogers both came just shy of making the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing 33rd (1:08.24) and 34th (1:09.01), respectively. In the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Lisa Toelle took 29th with a final time of 1:01.60. Day two’s final event was the 800-yard freestyle relay. Grisdale, Hale, Rogers and junior Tori Clarridge placed eighth in the event(7:50.19).

The Lobos wrap up competition at the Speedo Cup Invite tomorrow with the 1650-yard free, 200-yard back, 100-yard free, 200-yard breast, 200-yard fly and the 400-yard free relay, respectively.
