San Diego, Calif. – The Lobos advanced all three remaining singles players to the final rounds of the Flight One and Two singles draws as well as two singles players to the final round in the backdraws and one doubles team to the final round in the main doubles draw today at the San Diego State Invitational.
Ola Abou-Zekry and Iva Gersic both has perfect days for the second day in a row after they each won their two doubles and one singles matches of the day. Abou-Zekry defeated Bruna Paes from Fresno State in a tough 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 match while Gersic defeated her opponent, Eliska Krausova from SDSU (7-5, 6-2). The two will play each other in the final round tomorrow guaranteeing New Mexico’s win in the Flight One singles draw. They then teamed up for their doubles matches to advance to the semifinal round. Gersic and Abou-Zekry took on Nielsen and Kitts in the quarterfinal round for an 8-2 victory against the SDSU duo. In the semifinal round they took a victory against their second SDSU doubles opponent of the day when they defeated Bagshaw andKrausova (8-6).
Sandra Zmak was the third Lobo of the day to advance to the final round of the singles main draws after a win against Zoe Taylor from USD (6-2, 6-2). Lucy Scott progressed to the final round of the Flight Two singles consolation draw after defeating Dunlap from Pepperdine (6-1, 6-0). Maria Sotirchos also moved on to the final consolation round in the Flight Three singles draw after another victory against a Pepperdine player, Alicia Poladian (6-0, 6-1).
All finals matches will be played tomorrow starting at nine in the morning.
