Katie Montgomery: I am here and ready to try this out.

Chris – Germany: You have a new team, who will give your team the greatest impact?Say something about your new leader role!

And say Hi to Germany!!! 😉

Katie Montgomery: I would guess Brandi and Julie because they arekind of under the radar but I think they are going to have a good year and suprise some people. Hello to all the Lobo fans in Germany.
Russell: Do you feel this season is going to be competitive? What changes do you think will help improve the team with the new players?
Katie Montgomery: I think it is going to be very competitive in the conference so it is kind of wide open. It will also be competitive within our team because a lot of the new players have the capability to step up and if the freshman continue to improve they will get time on the floor.
Rick Herrera: It seems to me you have a team that could win the conference again. Could this team make it to the elite eight?
Katie Montgomery: I think we have the capabilities but everyone will have to play up to their potential and are all committed to that goal. We definetley have the talent we just have to put it all together.
Lobo Fan in South Carolina: How do you feel, compared to previous years, starting the competition with teams such as ASU, Texas, Nebraska, and then coming home with in state rival NMSU?
Katie Montgomery: It is definetley a lot harder than previous years but playing this kindof competition will help us in the long run once conference starts to be more competitive.
Brandon, Albuquerque: What are your goals for the upcoming season? And Hi!
Katie Montgomery: Hello. Win both conference championships, advance to the NCAA Tournament and make a run in the tournament.
David Mercer, Langley, WA: Given your accuracy from 3 pt range, how can Lobo fans (and coaches) get you to shoot more often.
Katie Montgomery: I get asked this question a lot. My number one goal is not to shoot so my shots come in the flow of the offense. I want to get my teammates open shots first but if I am open I will shoot it.
John (Albuquerque): Do you find it difficult to keep up with the tempo that Amy Beggin plays at?
Katie Montgomery: No. Her constant energy will benefit me when it comes to playing a tough schedule.
PAUL, BRENDAN AND KATIE CLARK: HI KATIE MONTGOMERY, WE WISH YOU A WONDERFUL AND SAFE SENIOR YEAR. WE WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE LOVE YOU! GO LOBOS!!!! PBK
Katie Montgomery: Hi guys and love you guys too and see you soon.
Brent (Stockton, CA): Does anyone call you “HOTROD” anymore? Or do you have a new nickname?
Katie Montgomery: No you are the only one that called me that. No new nicknames either.
Bill Krum Los Lunas: How hard was it to go from High School to the College Level? What advice would you give to the future recruits in regards to conditioning? What was the hardest thing for you in your freshman year of college? Thank You Bill Krum Los Lunas New Mexico
Katie Montgomery: IT was abviously a big different from high school to college. The weight lifting and the conditioning and the intensity that everyone brings everyday is the hardest things. As for condition it is going to be hard but you have to have a positive attitude about it.
Brian: I am from Las Vegas, New Mexico, and there are many fans here supporting our Lobos. I am wondering what are we going to see this year with the team.
Katie Montgomery: We should have a very talented team this year. It should be a little more up tempo type of game and a lot of suprises throughout our lineup.
will warren alb: KATIE COMING OFF A 22-10 RECORD WHAT CAN YOU DO AS THE LEADER TO WIN A MWC CHAMPIONSHIP?
Katie Montgomery: I think one of the big things is that we have to play well on the road. We can’t just win home games and expect to win a championship. We also need to peaking win conference tournament time rolls around.
Jerry (Woodbridge, VA): Who do you think will be UNM’s toughest non-conference and conference game and why?
Katie Montgomery: Non-Conference Oklahoma because they bring back their whole starting lineup and they create mismatches that is tough for us to defend. It is hard to tell in the conferenc because I think a variety of teamsaregoing to be tough this year.
Mariah from McIntosh NM: How is it like having so many new faces in practice?
Katie Montgomery: It is a lot different when you have six new players. It is challenging because they are all learning this system.
LaTasha: Do you guys get to do any studying while on the road. I know there are courses you can take online – does anyone do that?
Katie Montgomery: We have to do studying on the road to keep up with our classes because we miss a lot of school. As for online courses not usually.
Albuquerque: Beggin appears to be an outstanding freshman. What is the likelihood both of you will be on the court at the same time?
Katie Montgomery: I think their will be times we are both on the court at the same time. I don’t know what coach is thinking so I am not sure of when it will happen.
Albuquerque: The 6’6″ Kast seemed to play with greater confidence in the latest scrimmage against the more experienced players than the first. Is her progress advancing that rapidly or was it a fluke? Is she truly that tall or is her height exagerated?
Katie Montgomery: She has definetley improved in the last few weeks and if she continues to improve she will get some good minutes on the floor. She is pretty tall so yes she is 6-6.
Drew, Dorchester Nebraska: Katie, what are you most looking forward to this season?
Katie Montgomery: Having fun and enjoying my last season. I don’t want to take it for granted because I know I will miss it.
Megan, Fairbury NE: Katie, you being from Nebraska, what does the game against Nebraska mean to you?
Katie Montgomery: It means a lot to play against Nebraska because I know a lot of girls on the team. It will be fun and a challenge which will be good for our team.
Dorchester, NE: What do you think the Lobos need to do to improve on their showing in last years conference tournament?
Katie Montgomery: I think we need to make sure we have a better conference record to make sure we get a better seed and that we are peaking at the right time.
Rusty Montgomery, Dubuque, IA: Who is your favorite brother?
Katie Montgomery: It depends on the day.
Mark (Dallas): With conditioning being critical to success on the court. How much do you get to lift weights and run during the season vs. in the summer?
Katie Montgomery: Weight lifting is not as much during the season because we only go in three times a week for 30 minutes compared to everyday for an hour in the offseason. As for conditioning we do more basketball conditiong during the season compared to just more track running in the summer.
Maria (Albuquerque): I just saw that the Lobos are picked first – does that put added pressure on the team?
Katie Montgomery: Yes it definetley puts a lot more pressure on us but we like the challenege of being picked first and I hope that will motivate us to do well. If everybody else has confidence in us maybe that will help us have confidence in ourselves.
PJ (Burque): Do you have an all-time favorite Lady Lobo?
Katie Montgomery: Mandi Moore because when I came in as a freshman she did whatever she could to help me out.
Mark (Dallas): With so much more team speed this year and having more depth, do you feel you will press more often this year than in past years?
Katie Montgomery: I am not sure because we haven’t put that in yet but we do have more team speed this year so hopefully we will use that to our advantage this year.
larry alb: with utah and Byu losing key players what can we do without abbie, jana, judy?
Katie Montgomery: Well they are obviously hard to replace but for our team to be successful we are going to need players that haven’t played much to step up.
miguel: how does it feel to play oklahoma
Katie Montgomery: It will definetley be a challenge but it will be good for our team to play a program with that leevl of talent.
albuquerque: Who is your favorite unm coach?
Katie Montgomery: This is a loaded question but it depends on the day.
Kelly (ABQ): Have the last four years as a Lobo been what you expected and hoped for being recruited out of high school?
Katie Montgomery: Yes they have been everything I hoped they would be. I have been very fortunate with my experience here. I have no complaints.
Lobo Fan: What is it like to play in the Pit in front of so many fans?
Katie Montgomery: Playing in the Pit is an awesome experience and we are very spoiled to have fans like that. It is the best place to play in the country
Marty, Abq: What are your plans after this year?
Katie Montgomery: I am not for sure yet. One of my options is to get my masters in sports administration.
Jennifer S.F.: I just want to thank you for choosing UNM and tell you that we have enjoyed watching you play and look forward to this year.
Katie Montgomery: Thanks.
Katie Montgomery: I have to go do media interviews now. This was fun, thanks for all the questions and hopefully we will be able to do it again sometime. Just to remind you that we have our last scimmage Saturday at 5 pm. And our first game is Wed. Nov. 1st at 7 pm.
