Albuquerque, N.M. – New Mexico won four of their five A flight singles matches and have both doubles teams in the quarterfinals today in the first day of the Balloon Fiesta Classic hosted at the Lobo Tennis Club.
Top seeded sophomore Graeme Kassautzki defeated Austin Francis from the Air Force Academy 6-2,6-3 in the round of 16. Joe Nicolazzi won two singles matches to get to the quarterfinals. His first win came against Northern Colorado’s Paul Tschetter 7-6. 6-1. He went on to defeat Brett Rodgers from AFA 3-6,6-1,6-4 and is set to play 4th seeded Roman Stoisavljevic from NMSU tomorrow. Together Kassautzki and Nicolazzi dominated their doubles matches holding their opponents to no more than 3 points. They defeated Air Force’s Francis and Youn 8-3 and New Mexico State’s DeMucha and Pfiefer 8-2.
Sophmore Miles Bugby had a big win against New Mexico State’s star recruit Gustav Diep 6-3,6-4 in the singles A flight. He will play 2nd seeded Peter Zimmer from U of A tomorrow in the quartefinals. Bugby teamed with Chandler Brass in doubles for a win against Northern Colorado’s Kinsey and Nunn 8-4.
Number three seed Kamil Pajkowski will be in the quarterfinals as well after defeating Kalle Rosen from Denver University in a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 match.
