Q and A With Senior WR Thomas Wilson

Q and A With Senior WR Thomas WilsonQ and A With Senior WR Thomas Wilson

Sept. 28, 2006

Thomas Wilson has seen significant time in all 5 games on offense and special teams. Prior to Air Force he has four punt returns for 25 yards (6.2 avg.) with a long of 12 and has displayed excellent judgment and sure hands since taking over the punt return job. Wilson also has three catches for 32 yards prior to Air Force. He was a starter last fall and was one of the most dependable receivers on the team. Wilson has solid hands, runs good routes, grasped the new offense quickly and is a tough, willing blocker and has also taken over as the Lobos’ starting punt returner because of his sure hands. He was a Butte College teammate of Brian Ramsay who is a Lobo offensive lineman and he played on the same high school and JC teams as former Cal standout QB Aaron Rodgers, a 2005 first round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers. Wilson was primarily a soccer player, however, lettering all four years for the Vikings.

Q: What is the toughest part about playing the wide receiver position?
Thomas Wilson: Everything from routes, to catching the ball, blocking and knowledge of what you have to do. It is all tough.

Q: What goes through your mind when you are standing back waiting to return a punt?
TW: I hope everyone is blocking for me or this could hurt.

Q: Your bio says that you were a soccer player so why did you choose to play football in college over soccer?
TW: I got recruited to play soccer out of high school, but most of them got dropped because I had an injury. I decided I wanted to play football after that and had a couple of buddies that were playing junior college football so I went there.

Q: Your bio also says you could be an emergency kicker. How far do you think you could kick a field goal and make it?
TW: I’ve been known to hit one from 55 yards when I work at it.

Q: When you were learning this new offense did you ever get confused with the play calls and have to ask the quarterback to repeat the play?
TW: Not so much having him repeat the play, but ask him what I have to do.

Q: Did playing junior college football help you adjust to playing college football?
TW: It definitely did. Coming out of high school I was a little bit smaller than the rest of the people and I had only played my senior year of high school so it helped out big time.

Q: If you could walk down the red carpet at an awards show who would it be and why?
TW: My mom because she has been there for me since day one and supported me through everything, so I wouldn’t want anyone else.

Q: What part in any movie that you have seen would you want to play and why?
TW: Hans Solo in Star Wars because he got to fly the Millennium Falcon.

Q: If you could invite two people to dinner, who would it be and why?
TW: Jesus, because he is our savior and Peter Griffin from the Family Guy, because he is always having a good time, so who wouldn’t want to hang out with him?

Q: What is the best stadium you have ever played in outside of here?
TW: Utah or UTEP, because it was loud.

Q: What is your favorite type of music?
TW: Country.

Q: Give me the three best country bands or artists of all time?
TW: Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr.

Q: Favorite breakfast cereal?
TW: Cocoa Puffs.

Q: Favorite food?
TW: Lasagna.

Q: Favorite local place to eat?
TW: Frontier.

Q: Do you like the red and green chili?
TW: Green.

Q: What is the deal with the change in facial hair from week to week?
TW: I just try to do something different because it grows pretty thick on me, so I can do a lot of stuff with it and it’s fun.

Q: Who do you think would be a better goalkeeper: Marcus Smith, Travis Brown or Daryl Jones and why?
TW: I could get in trouble for this one, but I’m going to go with Travis Brown because his arms would be about 10 feet wide.
