American/College of Charleston Game Notes
New Mexico freshman defender Simon Ejdemyr was named to this week’s Soccer America’s National Team of the Week. Ejdemyr led UNM to a 1-1 tie vs. No. 1 SMU at the UNM Soccer Complex on Friday night, holding the high-powered Mustangs offense to just one goal. He also had a strong game in the Lobos’ 1-0 shutout of Tulsa on Sunday.
Ejdemyr, a 6-3 native of Boras, Sweden, is in his first season of collegiate soccer after a long career as a standout youth player. SMU had been averaging nearly three goals per game, but were shutdown for the final 67 minutes of action on Friday night. Ejdemyr was also a huge factor in dismantling the Hurricane attack on Sunday while helping the Lobos record their fourth shutout of the season.
Ejdemyr is the first Lobo to earn National Team of the Week recognition this season. He was also the Brine MPSF Player of the Week for his play against SMU and Tulsa last weekend.
UNM concludes in non-conference action this weekend with the 2006 New Mexico Youth Soccer Association Classic hosted by Fairfield Inn-University at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos face American (3-4-1) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) followed by College of Charleston (5-2-1) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (M.D.T.).
