ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico women’s golf finished tied for seventh after the first two rounds of the 28th Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Lobos shot a 298 in both the first and second rounds to finish with a total score of 596. UNM is tied at 12-over par with UTEP and Florida.
Ewart highlighted the Lobos performance, after firing a 2-over par (74-74=148) through the first two rounds. Ewart, who is competing in her first collegiate tournament, shot a 74 in both rounds and is tied for 18th individually. UNM sophomore Mikaela Backstedt was 3-over par (77-72=149) for the day and is tied for 26th. Py Bengtsson (74-76=150) and Giselle Claux (74-76=150) both tied for 32nd on the leaderboard and sophomore Alexandra Phelps was 6-over par (76-76=152). Also competing individually for UNM was freshman Britney Choy (73-76=149) and sophomore Morgan Grantham (79-78=157). Choy finished tied for 26th, while Grantham tied for 72nd.
Arizona State leads the team competition after shooting a 9-under par, 575. The Sun Devils lead South Carolina by eight strokes. Individually Jenna Pearson, South Carolina, shot a 7-under, 139 to lead the field after two rounds. Jullianne Kim highlighted the day with the only hole-in one on the 140 yard, par-3 second hole.
