Albuquerque, N.M. – The New Mexico women’s tennis team won both the singles and doubles draws in the Labor Day Grand Prix Tennis Tournament held Sept. 1-4 at the Lobo Tennis Club in Albuquerque, N.M.
“It was a good chance to get back into the competitive mind set,” head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said, “and to get some matches in before the official season starts.”
There were a total of sixteen participants, including the Lobo lineup of eleven players and 2006 graduate Maja Kovacek. UNM dominated the tournament with Iva Gersic taking first in the singles draw and the duo of Kovacek and Maria Sotirchos taking the doubles draw.
New Mexico has its first official tournament on Sept. 22-24 in the Colorado Invite hosted by the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo.
