All-Americans Kovacek and Gersic Earn Highest Postseason Ranking Ever For Lobo Women’s Tennis.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lobo All-Americans Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek earned the UNM women’s tennis program its highest postseason ranking ever in doubles. The duo were ranked No. 4 by the ITA after they posted an impressive 25-5 record in 2005-06. Kovacek and Gersic rank one and two in all-time doubles win’s at New Mexico. Combined they have won over 200 matches.

Recently the UNM women’s tennis team coaches and players handed out team awards. The awards were given out in the following categories.Highest GPA, Most Improved Player, Most Wins (singles & doubles), Spirit Award, and the MVP.

Kovacek took home the award for Highest GPA with a 3.99 she also shared the award for most wins with Iva Gersic the two both had a combined 55 wins on the year. Kovacek took home her final award for the 2005-06 season as she was awarded MVP of the Lobo women’s tennis team, a fitting end to a spectacular career.

The Spirit Award went to Mackenzie White a freshman from Mobile, Ala. Most Improved for 2005-06 was awarded to Elisa Bonner a junior from Los Alamos, N.M.

The awards for GPA and most wins are determined mathematically the MVP and MIP are determined by the coaches while the spirit award is voted on by the players.
